"Fascinating 17th Century Italian Oil On Canvas Depicting A Mythological Scene."A beautiful 17th century Roman painting was made by a talented school painter fascinated by the painting of Alessandro Turchi dit l'Orbetto (Verona 1578 - Rome 1649), thus probably one of his followers from the second half of the 17th century deserving of further study.
Beautiful scenographic staging of the characters in the foreground with rhythmic postures which direct the spectator's attention to the central part where lies a woman surrounded by four helpers. In the background, among the trees of a grove, two other figures watch the scene.
In the background stands a rocky landscape with a village with a twilight atmosphere.
The canvas measures are 133 x 100, while those including its original gilded and sandblasted Roman frame and contemporary with the painting are 160 x 123. The painting has been recently cleaned and relined.
We attach a historical certificate of authenticity to the sale.
