"Breton Market Scene In Faouët Place Des Halles Animated Oil On Panel Brittany"Women at the Faouët market, very beautiful oil on wood panel, executed with great realism, the artist having perfectly managed to convey the typical atmosphere of the Breton markets at the end of the XIXth beginning of the XXth century; these women all dressed in black, with austere appearance, crowding under the market, one beautiful sunny day. A striking contrast accentuated by the intense black of the silhouettes (this black completely saturated in color, so luminous in reality and so poorly rendered - affadi- by the photos)! Signed lower right, unfortunately the identity of the artist remains to be found ... Titled "Marché au Faouët" and numbered 36 - probably an exhibition number - The panel bears the mark of the famous color merchant panel on the reverse "Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet" established at 19 rue Vavin and 2 rue Bréa in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, a house which for more than a century over five generations has provided artists with frames, canvases, papers, as well as their famous tubes of colors, including the quality - it was said - has never been matched. Thus, they were the suppliers of the greatest artists that we know. Dimension: 33 cm x 41 cm (6 F format) + the frame Good condition. The work probably deserves a cleaning. The panel is beveled and probably monogrammed next to the stamp of the color dealer. Small patina repairs to be done on the frame.
