He was the son of the painter Don Andrés Cortes deceased in Seville in 1861.
According to the family tradition, Antonio Cortes became painter at the royal court of Spain at 20 years old age.

He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1859 to 1876
After the death of his first wife, Antonio Cortes remarries in 1873 in Lagny with Léontine Augustine Frappart. From this union will be born a son named Edouard Léon Cortes (1882-1969) exceptionally gifted for the painting who will become the famous artist as we know for his Paris views.
