"Oil On Canvas "saint Jean Baptiste" XVII ° Century"
Oil on canvas depicting Saint John the Baptist from the 17th century in its period gilt wood frame. John the Baptist is an important figure in Christendom, he leads an austere life on the banks of the Jordan River where he baptizes those who wish, one day Jesus asks him for baptism, it is there that he recognizes him as the messiah and said "here is the lamb of god". Saint John the Baptist is here represented seated on a rock by the river accompanied by his lamb, he holds a cross with a phylactaire "ecce agnus dei" (here is the lamb of god). This portrait with a naive character has a particular charm. Good condition, use and maintenance restorations, repainted, parts on the reverse, beautiful patina of the old gilding (wear visible on the photos) rear frame replaced by our restorer.
