The evident pictorial stylistic features of Nicolas Poussin (Les Andelys 1594 - Rome 1665) are noted in the painting, capable of influencing with his art generations of painters, fascinated by a unique way of dealing with classicism. The work shows, at the same time, unequivocal characters taken from the Raphaelesque Italian Renaissance, which lead us to think of it as being made in the Eternal City around the first half of the century, by an artist who certainly came into contact with the works of Poussin. (whose period of activity in Italy occurred between 1624 to 1640).

It is not easy to formulate a precise attribution considering the extremely prolific and heterogeneous cultural environment, however, for what can be deduced by observing the picture and its excellent quality, it is likely to be traced back to the workshop of the French master.

We see depicted a Holy Family with Saint Anna and little San Giovannino, where the reference to the pyramidal shape of the composition places the accent on the plasticity of the figures and their articulation in space. At the summit, St. Joseph in prayer, serenely watches over the Madonna and St. Elizabeth, seated with their respective children, Jesus and John the Baptist on their lap. The figures, as a whole, create an enveloping movement, of classical memory, harmonized by the figure of standing Giuseppe, which completes the harmony of the structure.

The landscape on the right is impressive, which makes you lose your gaze on the horizon, with the typical Venetian characters, as well as the rich palette of bright tones.
