China, XIXth Century, Ningbo Carved Wood Panel Lacquered On The Theme Of Weapons.

Very pretty Ningbo panel in carved wood lacquered in red and gold dating from the end of the 19th century. Ningbo, a port city in the northeast of Zhejiang province, had made a specialty of portraying traditional Chinese scenes. This sculpture, made on the theme of weapons, figure of warriors; an archer, a spear bearer, another holding a sword and finally a fourth using an ax. A small frieze on a green lacquer background completes the whole. China, circa 1880/1900. Good condition except for minor losses, breaks in the wood and other normal wear and without affecting the aesthetics. The panel is presented in an old custom frame. Dimensions: Height 29 cm.
