Object description :

"Corpus Christi End XVIème H 122 Cm"

This magnificent large Christ in light wood dates from the end of the XVIth, beginning of the XVIIth century.
Very beautiful in size, with very realistic anatomy, this sculpture of Christ on the Cross gives off a very moving force and presence. The head is tilted slightly downwards, the closed eyes show us the face of a peaceful Christ. He wears an important braided, interlaced crown of thorns. Her hair falls back into a long strand twisted to the right, the left one being partially missing. His closed lips are framed by a long, curvy beard.
The belted perizonium has folds and is tied and retained on the right side. The lack of arms and the lower legs in no way hinder the quality and the beauty of this Christ all in finesse and slender.
There are cracks due to time, gaps, traces of xylophagus and a detachment of the wood above the navel. Visible old nails and a screw in the back. Its large size (122 cm) makes it a very decorative object, very present.
