Very large oil on canvas with stretcher, with the attributes of science, animated by women. Attributed to René Rousseau Decelle, direct provenance of the family. Dimensions: 295 X 187 cm René Rousseau Decelle (1881 - 1964) In 1896, he entered the Julian Academy and 1889, he was admitted to the National School of Fine Arts. Painters as important as Derain, Fernand Léger, Matisse, Picasso, also attended this free academy in the rue Dragon. The Académie Julian was at that time the only private school allowing artists to present themselves for the Prix de Rome. In 1905, he won the 2nd Grand Prix de Rome with "Joan of Arc in her prison". In 1906, he received the 1st grand prize with "the family" and the emulation medal from the School of Fine Arts was awarded to him. In 1907, he presented in the living room, a large-scale work entitled: "a session in the chamber of deputies" where more than five hundred portraits appear and where Jean Jaurès occupies the platform. This work purchased by the state was attributed to the large public room at the Palais Bourbon. Member and gold medalist of the Society of French Artists, Rousseau Decelle exhibited there regularly.
