Beautiful Charrière-type model of this tourniquet or surgical tourniquet, one of the most famous amputation instruments. The instrument is signed on its handle. We can date it to the 1840s. The tourniquet is constructed from brass, cloth and chamois leather. It is in good general condition, despite a few spots on the chamois leather and a little rust on the claws which hold the fabric used to tighten the tourniquet around the patient's limb.
