MERCIE Antonin (1845 - 1916)" Mireille "
Regule,
Signed on the base,
Height: 65 cm
Marble base
Rare statue in regulates representing "Mireille" according to the model exhibited on Place Mireille in Saintes Maries de la Mer, in June 1913.
This heroine of Frédéric Mistral is represented under a pathetic and painful image by the artist: "Staggering mireille, struck by sunstroke in the stony desert of Crau, walking towards the church of Saintes Maries de la Mer".
This statue was taken in a limited number of copies of which few have come down to us today. In 1913, the statue was proposed for the sum of 120 francs with the possibility of adding a green or red marble base for an additional 15 francs.
Our statue is a model with the additional option of the marble base, an old marble restoration is to be noted.
Its patina was resumed 5 years ago in order to restore its radiance.
