Auguste-Alexandre Ducrot is a French General and deputy.Born in Nevers on February 24, 1817, Ducrot is known to have commanded the 1st Corps during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 after the withdrawal Mac-Mahon in Sedan. He was taken prisoner but escaped and returned to Paris where he organized the exit of troops besieged by the Prussians during the battle of Buzenval (January 19, 1871).Grand officer ofla Légion d’honneur, he became deputy of Nièvre in 1871.His positions at the French Parliament on the monarchical issue forced him to retired.He died in Versailles on August 16, 1882.
Sculptor Edmond Grasset won the Rome Prize of sculpture in 1878 for his plasterCato d'Utique, at the moment of killing himself. His stay at the Villa Medici was interrupted by his death on November 15, 1880, from an internal hemorrhage. He is buried in Preuilly-sur-Claise in the department of Indre-et-Loire.
