Object description :

"Mediterranean Navy. School Of Claude Joseph Vernet (avignon 1714-paris 1789)"
Mediterranean marine with fishermen on the shore Oil on canvas Golden wood frame decorated with canals and acanthus leaves in the corners. Dimensions with frame: 55 x 41 cm This school by Claude-Joseph Vernet (the master of the genre), represents a Mediterranean coast at sunset. The foreground is animated by figures and fishermen on rocks. In the distance in the bay a large sailboat is at anchor and you can see the entrance to a port. Painter, draftsman and engraver, Claude Joseph Vernet, was born in Avignon on August 14, 1714 and he died in Paris on December 3, 1789. He was trained in the South of France. We give him as master Adrien Manglard. In 1734, he left for Rome to study the work of previous landscapers and marine painters like Claude Gellée, whose style and subjects are found in his paintings. He also admires Poussin. However, through hard work, he creates his own style and generally represents nature by giving a lot of space to the sky (two-thirds of the painting) and perfectly arranges the characters and scenes from everyday life that animate the place. Very good original condition Sold with descriptive invoice & certificate of expertise
