Object description :

"Collectif - Paris Or The Book Of One Hundred And One"
Paris, at Ladvocat, Didot, 1831-1834. 15 volumes in-8 (23 x 14.5 cm). Hazelnut half-sheepskin, smooth back decorated with romantic arabesques, contemporary binding. Some foxing from classical times to this work, consolidation to the letter of the authors. Good copy Collective work to which the greatest authors of the time contributed. Very complete copy of the folded facsimile of the letter bearing the signature of the Hundred and one authors of the work, bound in the last volume as always consolidated following the fragility of the paper. Exceptional testimony of French society under the restoration. This collection was born out of the financial difficulties of the bookseller and publisher Ladvocat who, as those around him emphasized, had a larger heart than his portfolio. A publisher of great generosity, he published all the writers worthy of the name. The company was bankrupt in 1832 then in 1834. This new bankruptcy moved the entire literary circle of the time. All the writers of the moment (one hundred and one) took up their pens and offered him a short story to publish. Among the best known: Dumas Alexandre, Nodier Charles, Sainte-Beuve, Lamartine, Desbordes-Valmore, Chateaubriand, Perronet, Jules Janin, Arago Jacques, Bazin, Michaud, Tastu, Custine, Desnoyers Louis, Lamarque, Eugène Sue, Victor Hugo, Henri Martin, Halévy… PURCHASE OLD BOOKS - EXPERTISE Secure payment by credit card on our website: https://cartes-livres-anciens.com/produit/livres/litterature/collectif-paris-ou-le-livre-des- one hundred and one/
