"Louis Carrier-belleuse (1848-1913) Important Vase Choisy Le Roi"
Rare large ornamental vase late nineteenth executed by Louis Carrier Belleuse for the manufacture of Choisy-Le-Roi (the artist's handwritten signature is located hollow in the decor and the seal of the manufacture under the base) This model entitled "The Lutte pour la Vie "was presented in 1894 at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris. To our knowledge, this museum model exists with very very few copies, the best known is that kept at the Petit Palais Museum in Paris (inventory: ODUT1945) and a second at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid. This exceptional piriform piece with two handles is animated in an Art Nouveau style composition depicting an extraordinary round of children in relief rising to the assault of the neck in a swirling movement among thistle leaves with a partially metallic effect, the 'set resting on a Japanese carved wooden base, note from the outset a cooking defect at the level of the foot resulting in an inclined effect. Dimensions without base: 45.5 cm long X 38 cm high. The Manufacture of Choisy-le-Roi played an important role in the 19th century in the field of art ceramics and called upon talented artists who led to it obtaining numerous awards at the Universal Exhibitions. Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse son of the famous sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) of which he was a student, Louis Carrier-Belleuse followed a double training of sculptor and painter with Gustave Boulanger and Alexandre Cabanel at the School of Fine Arts. He started as a painter at the Salon in 1870 and exhibited sculptures from 1889. Very early on, he became interested in the industrial arts: for a few years, he worked with his father at the Manufacture de Sèvres, who was its artistic director. since 1875. Then, in 1877, he acquired from Théodore Deck a first experience of working with ceramics, and participated in the Sèvres competition in 1882 by sending a gardener project; Then he became director of works of art for the earthenware factory in Choisy-le-Roi, to which he supplied numerous models. He was awarded numerous times. As artistic director of the earthenware factory in Choisy-le-Roi, he designed many high-quality models, of which this vase is an exceptional witness.
