"Gaston BELMON was born in Tunis in 1907. He died in 1995. He painted animated scenes from his native country as well as landscapes from the south of France, especially in the Var and the Lot. His first works disappeared during the battles during the Second World War. In 1944, he became a drawing teacher in Tunis, which did not prevent him from painting and exhibiting at the Salon Tunisien (1957). This painting of the 1950s, of a more intimate genre, depicts a young oriental girl in a living room decorated with long curtains and sheers in pastel shades. She is sitting on a light blue sofa, her slim waist highlights the curve of her breasts. Attributes of seduction, her long brown hair cascades to the bottom of her kidneys, her lips and cheeks red-vermilion, her eyes blackened with kohl, bring all her sensuality to the painting. A large window lets in the light that envelops the scene. With its style frame in gilded wood, the table measures 53.5 cm X 45 cm."
