This beautiful painting shows us the portrait of the famous King Solomon, the legendary biblical figure who over the centuries has become the personification of the good ruler, proverbially recognized as one of the wisest politicians in history.
The stylistic characteristics lead us to place the canvas in that magnificent Venetian expressiveness of the early eighteenth century: in particular, the points of contact with the production of Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (Venice 1675-1741), painter of international culture, welcomed at the main noble courts of Europe for his extraordinary skills as a fresh decorator and skilled oil painter.
For the definition of his style of fundamental importance were the lesson taught by Lombard painter Paolo Pagani, his first teacher, but above all the influence of Sebastiano Ricci combined with the knowledge, during a trip to Rome around 1696, of the late Baroque, particularly of the works by Baciccia and Luca Giordano. From 1701 to 1708 Pellegrini was active in Venice, developing his personal style through meditations on Jordanian chromatism, but also on the Rubensian lesson (primary strand for the formation of Venetian rococo).
