Paris, Jean-Guy Deschamps, 1929
In-folio, 385 x 285 mm, 32 pages, illustrated cover. In sheets, filled cover.
One of the 700 numbered copies on Vidalon vellum.
First edition of this splendid book devoted to the marine fauna and flora, a true homage to the Emerald Coast, illustrated with 20 compositions by Mathurin Méheut stenciled by Jean Saudé.
Aimed above all at children, this work required two years of collaboration between the writer and the artist. It was edited by Jean-Guy Deschamps who had the idea of asking Colette to write a text to accompany Méheut's drawings. Under the title Regarde... there are actually two separate texts, Regarde and La Flaque. Twenty of the dozens of drawings Méheut had done will be selected. The artist was the master of the work, deciding on the paper but above all on the layout, and closely supervised the colouring of his drawings by Jean Saudé.
Note: Small tear at the bottom of the first (white) page, a few light scattered stains.
