The painting, of evident Flemish origin, is part of the seventeenth-century production of the school of Antwerp and, in particular, is attributable to the prolific workshop of the Francken, the famous family of Antwerp painters who for four generations played a predominant role in local art.
The stylistic and compositional characteristics of this Crucifixion bring its authorship closer to a painter close to Frans Francken II (Antwerp 1581-1642), and in particular with different points of contact with his son, Frans Francken III (Antwerp 1607-1667).
The painting is superbly decorative, of good quality and characterized by a bright design and a lively chromatism. The lines are highlighted by a vigorous design, with a rather marked play of light and dark.
The work is in excellent condition, the canvas is healthy, perfectly restored.
