Object description :

"Pair Of Reed Lamps - Maison Charles"
Pair of metal and brass lamps from the Charles house with reed decorations escaping from a Medici vase. The whole rests on a cubic base with steps. The lampshades are in black sheet metal and their frames are capped with a pine cone. Lamps signed "Charles and son" at the foot. Pair in good condition, some wear of use and a snag on one of the feet. In 1908, the Charles house was created thanks to Ernest Charles, who took over the Maison Ullmann, Bronzier. The company only works in bronze and initially specializes in the reproduction of old light fixtures, an activity which allows it to forge a reputation among art bronze workers. The arrival of Charles' sons brought a certain revival to the creation of the House, which then truly developed its characteristic style, between classicism and originality, with the most famous lamp models such as Pineapple, reeds, spike of corn or even pine cone. In the 2000s, the company went through a difficult period of breathlessness and financial difficulties. A young investor, Michael Wagner takes over the family business. He becomes the new director of Maison Charles and gives new life to society. Today, the company specializes in tailor-made pieces for private clients, art galleries or interior designers, as well as in the production, in limited series, of the House's bestsellers.
