AUBRY Louis Louis Aubry (1741 - March 21, 1814) - cabinetmaker. Master on August 31, 1774. He remained on rue de Grammont until the Revolution, and then took over his father-in-law's former workshop, rue Saint-Nicolas. He produced Transition furniture, in particular jump chests and Louis XVI furniture. It was as the son-in-law of the master cabinetmaker Claude-Pierre Lebesque, that Louis Aubry obtained his master's letters in 1774. Until the Revolution, he worked rue de Grammont then took over the workshop of his stepfather rue Saint-Nicolas . In 1792, he was appointed civil commissioner of the Quinze-Vingts section. All his productions, of good manufacture, show a certain talent. He showed great skill in marquetry and produced furniture in the Louis XV to Louis XVI Transition style, in particular jump chests, decorated with geometric patterns or flowers and trophies. His furniture is very sober, very well structured. We mention a number of works, including mahogany, wood for which he seems to have a clear preference: dressers, secretaries, small light furniture like small tables and desks with music. We can cite, among other things, a curious piece of furniture in between, garnished with rods inspired by antiquity and resting on green bronze sphinxes, or even a small table surrounded by amaranth whose top is garnished with mosaics and with two feet of gilded copper imitating lyres.
