Hendrick Martenz Rokes, called Sorgh (1611 - 1670, Rotterdam) - A kitchen interior with two maids. Oil on oak panel, signed lower right "HM". Attribution: Walther Bernt, 1972.

Hendrik Martens Roques, so called Sorgh, was born in Rotterdam, he was a disciple of David Teniers the Younger. As an artist, he specialized in peasant scenes in interiors and courtyards. Most of his works represents kitchen interiors, where the artist pays much attention to still-life compositions.
