Democratic Republic of Congo, Luba / Hemba people, mid-20th century, very nice caryatid seat in engraved wood very patinated depicting a female figure seated on a circular base with a border decorated with geometric patterns. The sculpture of the character is remarkable and represents the evocative power of the woman, the proudly raised chest, sign of fertility and the prognathic face full of confidence. Note the attention to detail of the sculptor; evidenced by the engraved border, the digited hands and the proud posture. Condition: stabilized slits and old restorations without affecting the beautiful aesthetics. Height 20 cm. Diameter at the top 18 cm. Diameter at the base 17.5 cm.
