Very vigorously carved in the round and in the smallest details, this sculpture of the living Christ in ivory dates from the end of the 17th century, early 18th century. Work of a French imagier around Jean Gaulette (born in Dieppe in 1668), this big Christ is represented head raised towards the sky, half-opened mouth revealing the tongue and the toothing, hair with median line falling on the shoulders in wavy locks , slightly visible venous network on the arms; perizonium leaving the right leg uncovered with wavy lateral fall; parallel legs with the left slightly bent and feet juxtaposed Height feet hands: 40 cm On a sober base in blackened metal Beautiful state of conservation, small restorations (fingers) Ivory of Elephantidaes spp (I / A) pre-convention, specimens prior to June 1, 1947 and therefore in accordance with Regulation 338/97 of 9/12/1996 in its article 2-W.
