German painter and engraver, Georg Jahn was born in Dresden in 1869 and began his career as a porcelain painter, following the family tradition. While studying at the Dresden Fine Arts Association, his friend Max Pietschmann introduced him to engraving. He was quickly recognized in Dresden as a portrait painter and received in 1914 the "Saxon Gold Medal". He left behind little documentation, but almost 330 engravings.
