The Palazzo Donn'Anna, located at the start of Via Posillipo, by the sea, is one of the most famous palaces in Napoli. The name of the palace derives from Anna Carafa, wife of Ramiro Núñez de Guzmán, viceroy of Naples. Its construction was entrusted to the most important architect of the city of this time, Cosimo Fanzago, who in 1642, conceived a plan inspired by the canons of the Neapolitan baroque. Fanzago failed to complete the palace following the death of Donn'Anna. The unfinished building presents the spectacular charm of an ancient ruin often confused with the remains of the Roman villas that characterize the Posillipo coastline.
