"Persian Kashan Royal Rug, 310 Cm X 506 Cm, Iran, Kork Wool, Around 1930, Very Good Condition"
Large and beautiful royal Persian Kashan rug, 310 cm wide by 506 cm long, originally from Iran around 1930/1940.
In hand-knotted kork wool for around 350,000 knots per m² in very good condition.
(Kork wool is taken from under the belly and around the neck of lambs, where the softest wool is found.) Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center for the production of legendary rugs.
Carpets of fine weaving, very rich in composition, were knotted by the royal manufacture of the Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Crafts stopped in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century. The revival of carpet production began with carpets which are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool which gives an extremely velvety appearance.
These copies are called Kashan Motashemi, from the name of the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century. The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, figures with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kashans took their place among the best Persian rugs. This magnificent old Kashan has very bright colors and is mainly composed of a large medallion, large interlacing, arabesques and flowers, the kork wool is clean and soft. Its decoration as its colors are characteristic of this provenance.
At the same time very rich and fine in its lines, this decoration was executed by the weaver with the help of a cardboard previously drawn, as we can see from the accuracy of the patterns in the corner of the borders.
This carpet has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
