Object description :

"Charcoal Charles Fromuth, Concarneau, Brittany"
Charles Fromuth was born in the USA in 1858, after studying at the Beaux Arts in Philadelphia, he arrived in Paris in 1890, and a few months later he moved to Concarneau. Perpetual observer of the closed city he tirelessly paints the maritime activity of the port with a very great modernity which earned him a certain misunderstanding of the general public, his buyers are the painters in particular Rodin who accompanied by Fritz Taulow travels specially in 1901 to meet him . Charles Fromuth declares movement is the main idea of my work. He was very influenced by Japanese art and Hokusaï which he discovered in 1900 at the international exhibition. He exhibited a lot until 1910 and received distinctions from around the world. After 1910 he continued to exercise his pastel art in near anonymity.
