"Renaissance Church Stall"
Very beautiful double Renaissance stall in oak. This type of liturgical furniture was very successful around 1500 and throughout the 16th century. Huchen workshops have specialized in the manufacture of this furniture, decorated with ornamental motifs of plant inspiration or fantastic animals, as can be seen here on the armrests. Our copy presents two sculpted mercies, one with a plant motif and the other, very original, with a skull and crossbones. This type of macabre decoration was widespread at the end of the 15th century and at the beginning of the 16th century and constituted a kind of memento mori. With the exception of a small graft on the seat, this double stall is in very good condition and constitutes a very fine example of Renaissance furniture.
