Object description :

"An Empire Armchair From The Palace Of Compiègne, By Jacob, Early 19th Century"
Large lacquered beech armchair, from the Palace of Compiègne and stamped Jacob D Rue Meslée, from the Empire period. The armchair is upholstered with a grey blue velvet.
The readable number under the armchair corresponds to the 1855 inventory of the Château de Compiègne:
"2 painted wooden armchairs, turned legs square shape, covered in horsehair, covered in reps fabric, green and red lizard". This armchair, which was therefore part of a pair, was in the bedroom of apartment no. 12 located "cour des Bains, mezzanine on the 1st floor". They were sold in 1884.
The stampJacob D Rue Meslée was used between 1803 and 1813.
We warmly thank Mr. Étienne GUIBERT, Heritage Curator, in charge of the historic apartments of the Palais de Compiègne, for his invaluable assistance.
