Large Symbolist Painting, Central European School, Circa 1890 flag

Object description :

"Large Symbolist Painting, Central European School, Circa 1890"
Oil on canvas depicting a woman holding a child on her lap, surrounded by two young children holding roses, one with her hands clasped as a sign of prayer or adoration. In the background, lush vegetation. The representation is particular and can give rise to another interpretation: we are perhaps facing a Virgin and Child with two angels (although the presence of the wings is missing). It is, in any event, a Symbolist school, probably from Central Europe, which often represents the sacred, fatal or magical woman, in mysterious or fantastic settings. The presence of roses, apart from the strong symbolic power which they have, appear here, by their color, a symbol of regeneration due to the semantic relationship of Latin rosa with ros, rain, dew. The work is unfinished, which explains the presence of a squared pencil, which we see especially on the light parts. 120x102 with walnut frame.
