"Impressionist Ceramics, Banko, Japan, Small Set, Modeled Earthenware"
Charming set: tête à tête hand-braided earthenware, engraved before firing, enameled part, raw part, multicolored floral decoration of contrasting applications; and pair of small dishes, painted and gilt decor with applications. A brown dish, a cream dish.
It is a somewhat confidential production of Banko, by the potter Mori Yesetsu, a factory in the city of Yokkaishi, circa 1880. Similar pottery caused a sensation at the 1878 exhibition in Paris, a prelude to Art Nouveau, we understand why.
Pretty ceramic pieces, signed intaglio. Japan, late 19th century
Dimensions: 15cm x 8cm maximum for tea pieces, 17.5cm diameter for dishes.
Very good condition, just a little wear, and an incomplete green leaf on a dish.
