"Gustave Bourgogne (1888-1968), Gouache On Paper Seen From A Busy Square."
BOURGOGNE (Gustave), painter born in 1888 in Veigné (Indre-et-Loire) and died in Paris in 1968 (Ec. Fr.). Founder of the Association of Musical Artists, he interpreted in painting great works by renowned musicians. He was joined in this current by other talented artists like Kupka and Da Silva Bruhns. Gustave Bourgogne exhibits regularly at the Salon des Indépendants until 1963. This very pretty and unusual gouache on paper "View of a busy square at night" is a reflection of his talent. On a black background, it reveals a bright and playful composition. This treatment of the subject also recalls the style of certain Italian Symbolist painters. Signed by the artist lower left and dated 1937. Work in good condition. Dimensions at sight: Height 34 cm. Width 46 cm (55.3 cm x 66.8 cm with its frame).
