"Exceptional Empire Dragons Bed"
Superb Empire period bed mounted on casters in Cuban mahogany and garnished with gilded and patinated bronzes, uprights decorated with vestals, arrows, flowers and eagles surmounted by a caryatid head in patinated and gilded bronze, the cross adorned with sublime chiseled and gilded bronzes showing facing dragons with in the center a cup supported by winged sphinxes, on the sides of medallions with lion heads and palmettes in gilded bronze. The rear uprights are surmounted by superb casseroles in chased and gilded bronze. Bed to be compared to the work of Jacob Desmalter (see Napoleon's bed at the Malmaison castle). Furniture entirely in its original state, the gilding of the bronze is in very good condition, original varnished mahogany, some small chips of use in the veneer in the corners of the feet, some scratches of use.
