19th century, Italian Octagonal Sail Plan Center Table by Luigi and Angiolo Falcini

This large and important ebonized wooden center table consists of a octagonal sail top finely inlaid in nacre, sweet and precious woods. The inlays form some geometric and floral designs. The plan is centered by a polylobe reserve adorned in the center by a vase containing flowers that fall around. Around eight inlaid segments have in the center a cup pattern from which depart branches and leafy twigs with flowers.
The stem of the table has an octagonal section, adorned with inlays with foliage motifs, and from which depart four legs of the line moving ending in curl.
The table is certainly part of the fine cabinet making production of the Florentine (Italian) workshop of the Falcini brothers, Luigi (Campi, 1794 - Florence, 1861) and Angiolo (Campi, 1801 - Florence, 1850).
Moved from the province, they set up their shop in Florence – Italy (about 1834-36), which was then led by the sons of Luigi, Alessandro e Cesare, also inlayers (news until about 1882).
The two cabinet-makers from a family of lumberjacks from Campi Bisenzio, near Florence, moved to the city and opened this important cabinet-making workshop, of which we have news since 1834. The workshop had its period of greatest splendor until the death of Luigi, occurred in 1861; with less importance the activity was carried out by the sons of the latter at least until 1882. The workshop of the Falcini brothers, specialized in inlaid cabinet-making, worked on commission of the grand-ducal family and the noblest Florentine families. Also in this table we find the characteristics that unite the works of the workshop, such as the quality of the decoration, the dense but neat floral inlay, the absolute precision in the cut and in the combination of the various materials (light, coloured and dyed woods, ivory, mother-of-pearl), often arranged on the black ebony background.
This fine table is suitable for any environment, both furnished with antique and modern furniture. Very decorative, it is very practical for the sail top, which can be positioned vertically where you need more space.
