View of Venice from the Lagoon with fishermen
Signed lower left
oil on canvas, cm. 33 x 61
with 53 x 97 frame
The present painting depicts a view of Venice, immortalized by the Lagoon. The composition also shows a fascinating cross-section of 19th-century lagoon life, with a fisherwoman paying tribute to one of the many small lagoon capitals with flowers.
The splendor of Venetian Vedutismo of the eighteenth century did not end with the end of the Republic of Venice, but continued even during the following century, and our work is an excellent testimony.
The work, signed on the lower left, does not allow us to trace the painter; but with certainty we can approach it to a foreign master. The landscape painters made it possible to spread the myth of the lagoon city in Europe and in particular in England, France and Germany, where the market welcomed this artistic genre with enthusiasm, giving rise to a great fortune that flourished throughout the nineteenth century.
