Roger Capron (1922-2006)
Student of the School of Applied Arts under the direction of René Gabriel from 1938 to 1942, He founded with his promotion friends, Robert Picault and Jean Derval, the Callis workshop in Vallauris in 1946. They separated in 1948 to open each their workshop.
Roger Capron launches a production of molded utility pieces, with handmade decor. He uses a lot of the paraffin reserve technique to create decorations that will become emblematic of the 50s like the Pajamas stripes or the Damier decor. He also created coffee tables and in 1957 the decor of the Cannes ferry terminal.
It was in 1963 that he turned to the exclusive production of earthenware tiles, then of sandstone in 1968 with the Byblos hotel in Saint-Tropez.
In 1989, he turned to the creation of sculptures in Raku representing animals or stylized characters and full of humor.
