Mythological engraving "Le Défi des Piérides" after Pierino del Vega (1501-1547) engraved by Enea Vico (1523-1567) and published by Lafrery (1512-1577) bearing the date MDLIII (1553). Apollo and the gods of the river on a rocky outcrop, the muses below playing instruments on either side of a source. Slight lack in the Latin worm along the lower left edge "Ausae Cum Musis Committere Profila Voce Victae Nunc Volitant Imitantes Omnia Picae". Watermark with eagle. The engraving has been repaired by an approved professional. Sheet dimensions 42.3 cm x 28.4 cm image 38.5 cm x 25 cm. A copy of this engraving can be found in the British Museum in London.
