Object description :

"Large Ceylon Knife, Said Piha Kaeta, XVIIIth"
Large Ceylon knife known as PIHA KAETA.
Steel, brass, silver, ivory.
Long. 31cm blade; Long. total 38cm; Long. handle 10cm.

The ivory handle plates carved with scrolls enclose the blade core, which is covered with a sheet of brass. A silver plate decorated with foliage and geometric figures covers the heel. The lower end of the handle is surrounded by a strong piece of chiseled brass and perforated with patterns of moving leaves.
The blade with only one edge, has on both sides a damascene gutter of brass engraved with regular foliage. A large engraved and damascened cartridge of brass cut into scrolls decorates each side on a tier. The broad back is damask of brass decorated following the gutters of the blade.
This beautiful PIHA KAETA impresses with its size and power contained in its strong blade.
