Charles RUDHARDT Genève, 1829 - Paris, 1895 Oil on canvas Signed and dated lower right "Ch. Rudhardt / 93" Labels on the back "N ° 7 of the catalog / Philae of the cataract (Nubia)" and "9 Xre 1901" 27 x 41 cm (without frame) Charles Rudhardt is a Geneva painter and ceramist established in Paris in 1862. The Ariana museum in Geneva keeps a big blue vase with two handles and elephant heads in porcelain and the Museum of Arts decorative de Paris a beautiful glazed earthenware vase with a Japanese decor by Gicqueau. He also painted some very decorative paintings between 1885 and 1893, memories of Egypt describing picturesque sites with bright colors and well-cut architectural profiles (the Obelisk of Thutmosis 1st at Karnak, the Temple of Isis at Philae, A young fellah in Cairo).
