Joseph Gall was the model for Edouard Manet of the portrait "Le Liseur" exhibited at the Strasbourg museum. This portrait represents a bearded man, deeply absorbed in reading a large volume placed on a brick ledge. The model is the painter Joseph Gall, who had a workshop close to that of Manet.
