"Lucien Laurent - Gsell, "beautiful Bathers", Oil, Signed"This colorful impressionist work was executed at the turn of the 20th century by the famous French painter of Swiss origin Lucien Laurent-Gsell (1860 in Paris - 1944). Laurent-Gsell comes from a family of artists. His father was the glass painter Gaspard Gsell, who directed the company Laurent & Gsell in Montmartre, his grandfather was the lithographer Jakob Laurenz Gsell. Glass and church painter Albert Gsell was his brother and Laurent-Gsell received his first artistic education from his father. With his support, he was then accepted at the École des Beaux-Arts and was taught by Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, among others. At the age of 84, Lucien Laurent-Gsell died in Paris, where he also found his last resting place. Distinctions: 1911 Appointment to the Official Painter of the Navy.
