"Suite Of Four Charles X Chairs Stamped Marcus And Jallot"
Magnificent suite of four gondola chairs in mahogany and mahogany veneer. Rounded files with carved decoration. Chassis seat, front hock base, rear saber. Stamped MARCUS and JALLOT. Buffer varnished in our workshop. Re-stocked with striped silk by a professional upholsterer. Circa 1830. Seat height 42 cm, back 80 cm, width 46 cm, seat depth 40 cm. MARCUS: furniture carpenter who ran a factory in Paris, he was on rue Amelot between 1827 and 1842 - but already under the Consulate and the Empire, he had invented a sofa with arched cheeks that bore his name. At the exhibition at the Pavillon de Marsan in 1930, there was a pair of lemon tree chairs from the Château des Tuileries. JALLOT Alexandre: manufacturer of chairs, armchairs and furnishings. He successively worked at 4, rue d'Hauteville, 58, rue des Marais-Saint-Martin, 42, rue de la Tour d'Auvergne, quai Voltaire, and 14, rue Marais-Saint Germain.
