"Pierre-antoine Patel (1648-1707). Italian Landscape With Characters Conversing At The River"
Oil on canvas Beautiful period frame in gilded wood Total dimensions: 54 x 47 cm Pierre-Antoine PATEL (November 22, 1648 - March 15, 1707) dit Patel le Jeune, French painter of the XVIIth century. Son and pupil of Pierre Patel and Marguerite Verdier, with whom he is sometimes confused, he specialized, following his father, in the landscape of ancient ruins, whose picturesque style he accentuated (twisted trees, dense vegetation, marshland decaying). Received at the Academy of Saint-Luc in 1677, he is notably the author of a series of twelve tables representing the twelve months of the year. Museums and private collections, in addition to numerous paintings, conserve this artist's pastels and gouaches. During the exhibition devoted to the French landscape of the small palace in 1925, the Patels, father and son, both gave pride of place. Very good original condition. Sold with invoice & certificate
