"Rare Embroidery Greek Subject In An Art-nouveau Frame"
Well, I admit, when I bought this object from a distance, only the frame interested me. I could see it around a symbolist drawing or an Art-Nouveau watercolor, but when I received it, what I thought was a mechanical tapestry turned out to be an incredible embroidery with the small point of a meticulousness and exceptional quality. The theme of the decorator of Greek pottery painting a large vase under the eyes of his beautiful being underlined by the frieze at the bottom. It is, I think a Flemish or Dutch work, signed illegible on the back with a date 1902.The frame is in mahogany veneer with brass ornaments in the upper corners and a frieze of gilded stucco decorated with dancers Greek which extended on the sides by returns unfortunately absent.
Frame 74 X 55 cm, rebate 56 X 45 cm approximately.
The main photo has a moiré effect due to the weft of the embroidery which does not actually exist.
