Composition of noble attitude that we owe to Charles from Luna. Born in 1812, he apprenticed in the workshop of Léon Cogniet and exhibited for the first time in 1833. Although very active, he was no longer present at the Salon before 1849, and then in 1866 for the last time. We find several of his paintings at the Massey Museum in Tarbes. His paintings, still very much alive, represent for many the body of the Hussars, but also the Spahis and the regiments of Africa during the conquest of Algeria. He does not disdain to paint “light” horse-drawn carriages (such as phaeton, tilburys…) in the middle of a race.
