Object description :

"Théophile Deyrolle (1844-1923) Breton Washerwomen"
Very nice work of the Parisian painter but Breton by adoptionTheophile Deyrolle (1844-1923) in its beautiful setting of the nineteenth time. It represents the Breton washerwomen washing their clothes in the river. The work is in its own juice and a cleaning may be considered, I can take care of it. It is signed lower right, measures 78 cm by 93 cm including frame, and 50 cm by 67 without the frame which has some slight accidents, like jumps or splinters of gilding, but nothing important, the photos speak of themselves. Théophile Deyrolle studied architecture and then entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of Alexandre Cabanel and William Bouguereau. It was there that he met Alfred Guillou, a painter from Concarneau, where the two men went in 1871. He traveled to Lazes and Armenia during the 1860s, and brought back drawn documentation which he published in Le Tour du Monde - Nouveau Journal Des Voyages in 1869. Théophile Deyrolle became Breton and Concarnese by adoption, by marrying Suzanne Guillou, the sister of his friend Alfred Guillou3. With his friend and brother-in-law Alfred Guillou, he is considered to be the founder of the École de Concarneau4. Based in Concarneau, he works for the HB earthenware factory in Quimper to decorate dishes, plates, vases with Japanese patterns. Then attracted by the life of the port and the trades of the sea, he became a fishmonger. His favorite pictorial subjects revolve around port life. He produced decorative panels for various hotels in the region, portraits, numerous landscapes and, in 1909, a series of pastoral scenes. Works in public collections: Museum of Fine Arts in Pau: The Arrival with forgiveness of Fouesnant (1881) Museum of Fine Arts in Quimper: Bowls players, Mackerel fishing (1881), Le Manoir de Locamand ( 1883), The Odet Valley (1883).
