Object description :

"Still Life With Flowers Circa 1800 - Follower Of Ambrosius II Bosschaert "
Oil on copper
Our delicate bouquet of irises, tulips, lily of the valley and forget-me-nots is a late and very skillful revival of the composition by Ambrosius II Bosschaert, which is kept in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Our painter did not merely copy the original, but made variations on it: he substituted a snail for the fly of the original and added foliage downwards and two butterflies on the sides. The iris at the top of the composition is strikingly realistic.

We have chosen to present the work in a Dutch upside-down walnut veneer frame from the late 17th century.
Dimensions: 24 x 17.8 cm with the view - 53 x 48 cm with the frame

Ambrosius II Bosschaert (Arnemuiden 1609 - Utrecht 1645) is the son of Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder sometimes called Ambroise Dubois. Throughout his life he painted still lifes with flowers in the manner of his father and his works were often attributed to the latter.
