" Attributed To Tairraz - Curved Tomb Commode - XVIIIth Century"
Superb and rare chest of drawers called "Tomb" curved on three sides Very beautiful marquetry in violet wood and rosewood, superb designs It opens with four drawers in three rows. Beautiful and rich garnish of leafy bronzes. The parquet is covered with a magnificent red veined white and yellow marble 3.5 cm thick, surrounded by a double corbin beak. Jean Michel TAIRRAZ, cabinetmaker practicing in Lyon, passed Master in 1756. There are few documents relating the life and work of this Master. Undoubtedly of Dauphinoise origin, and as evidenced by a deliberation of the Community, he was elected Master guard for 1774 - 1775. His production includes a number of chests of drawers, in tomb or false tomb, with two or three rows of drawers. Like most of his colleagues in Lyon, Tairraz used veneers, dark with lighter frames. The Tairraz dressers are also characterized by the curved surface of its sides, as well as by the original designs which adorn them.
