"Léontini Levigne, Military Scene, Franco-prussian War From 1870 - 1871. Wounded Soldier"
Military scene taking place during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Our painting represents the terrible winter of 1870, during which a French officer was shot in front of an SSBM rescue center. We can see a nun carrying on her arm an armband of the SSBM (future Red Cross) and hurtling down the stairs in order to rescue the wounded; as well as a French soldier supporting his officer who had just been killed by a Prussian patrol who had just fired. The SSBM is the Relief Society for Military Wounds created in 1864 under the impulse of Henry Dunant (Swiss businessman) then in 1879 became the ADF (Association of French Ladies), then the Union of Women of France in 1881. This beautiful painting is in good house condition. Note, a small old repair in the center of the canvas (see photo). This table is signed Leontini LEVIGNE lower left.
