"Turkmen Carpet Pendi Chouval, 88 Cm X 157 Cm, Turkmenistan, Superb Condition"Turkmen Pendi carpet of great finesse, the "must have" of any carpet collection.
These rugs honor the "güls". Originally the "gül" is a kind of tribal emblem which is called "tamga". Just like our coats of arms.
The "tamga" was transmitted during weddings from one tribe to another, but also during wars, following a defeat, the defeated tribe gave its "gül" to the victorious tribe.
This beautiful "joval saryk" has the "gül" serrated "salor". A "joval" serves as a cushion, tent bag, but also as a container for the saddle cloths of horses. The bags containing the camel rugs are called "chetlik".
The "jovals" are woven in the width direction, the longest part with the use of the Persian knot.
The wool used is that of the belly of the sheep, very soft and which has the shine of silk, a very short velvet. We find on our model the characteristic of the old "tekké", the band of kilim folded inside and called "alam" which served to protect the beginning of the carpet. (visible on the last photo, back of the carpet) but also these extraordinary colors of crushed raspberry and this typical orange.
Dimensions: Width 88 cm (2'11 ") x length: 157 cm (5'1")
